What is an LED Counter, and how is it used?

LED Counters allow factory personnel instant access to real-time production counts. They can be used to monitor production output, batch counts, cycle counts, reject or bad part counts and more.

These counter devices are often referred to as a industrial counters, production counters, cycle counters, piece counters, led counters, electronic counters, or an array of other names. They are a valuable source of information to assembly personnel and plant managers.

An LED Counter displays an incrementing value based on a user’s PLC/machine/photoeye or switch output. Standard units increment by one per output, but customization can be made for incrementing on a scale. They are most often used to show the number of products completed in a work cell or at the end of an assembly process. They show exactly how many pieces your personnel have completed.

How do they operate?

LED Counters are operated from user output that the user wires to the counter’s logic inputs. These inputs are activated by the application of a voltage. These inputs are often applied by running power through a simple device such as a palm switch or photo-eye. The input activates when the voltage is applied and will not activate again until the voltage is removed and then reapplied.

Two inputs common to all American LED-gible Counters are the Count and Reset inputs. The Count Input makes the LED counter increment or decrement, and the Reset Input makes the LED Counter reset to Zero. User can also set a value between 0 - 9999 via Preset dip switch settings and actuate the Preset input using the same input methods. This is often utilized to Count to a Preset value (or down from Preset to Zero).

A relay output is provided for usage with a Common, Normally Open, and Normally Closed output for customer to wire any 120 VAC 3 Amp resistive load (or lower). This Relay output is actuated by the Counter when it reaches EITHER Zero or Preset values (jumper selectable). This is commonly used to actuate status indicators for personnel to change operations, change shifts, etc.

ALL 2600 Series counters/timers have serial capabilities for communications via PC COM port interface for monitoring and/or control of unit (with free supervisory program PD-2116-058). This is helpful when management and supervisors require realtime data of the processes and assembly lines.

The AF-2625-314 Counter is reconfigurable as a Timer simply by changing internal jumper settings. This reconfigured state is equivalent to the AF-2620-314 Timer model.

Please Note: Wiring is required for this products use. 120VAC power must be run along with 120VAC OR 24VDC inputs to utilize Counter characteristics. Two holes in cabinet are provided for power and inputs. The enclosure includes Wall mount mounting tabs.
