What is a Production Pace Timer, and how is it used?
The Production Pace Timer (PPT) is a special purpose
numeric marquee designed to pace the production rate
of any manual process. Each line of the marquee
is a six-digit display constructed from 2.3” LED
modules providing visibility up to 130 feet.
Common Configuration Use
The GOAL line is programmed as a Preset Value
indicating how many units of production are expected.
This can be accomplished via Keypad interface or
serial communications via PC, PLC, etc. This GOAL value
can be set as a static value or an incrementing pace
value.
The ACTUAL line of the marquee counts in response to
an input, compatible with most photo-eyes, whisker
switches, and palm switches, etc., indicating how many
units of production have actually been completed.
Two count logic inputs are provided allowing the
PPT to monitor multi-lane production lines or
alternatively Count input
number 2 can be configured to decrement the ACTUAL value
in order to compensate for "improper" or "bad"
pieces/products.
The % EFFICIENCY display line is used to display the
efficiency of the production facility (calculated by
ACTUAL/GOAL x 100). This instills
"at a glance" knowledge of the facilities
productivity, to allow the onlookers to adjust
accordingly.
The GOAL and ACTUAL fields may be independently
reset via Keypad, logic inputs, or Serial
communication interface. The GOAL pace display may be
paused to stop the GOAL field from automatically
incrementing during breaks. A HOLD input is provided
for connection to a controlling device, or the
operator may hold the GOAL timer via the
front panel keypad.
The 2723 Production Pace Timer has serial
capabilities for communications via PC COM port
interface for monitoring and/or control of unit
(free supervisory program PD-2116-051 works for
monitoring the GOAL and ACTUAL fields). This is
helpful when management and supervisors require
real-time data of the processes and assembly lines.
Customer is required to run the necessary wiring
(power, communications, and inputs) depending on
configuration properties for use. Input wiring is 24 volt
contact closure between Ground (Gnd) and each
individual input via screw terminal connectors
within the PPT housing. AC power wiring
(6 foot power cable and pre-wired D-style connector)
is provided for convenience.
Four holes in rear of cabinet are provided for
wall mounting applications. 2 holes located in the
top of the cabinet are provided for optional eye bolts
(not supplied)
